How "artsy" is Vassar?

I've heard it is a very artsy, liberal, "hippie"ish campus... is this true?

Also, how much of a reach is Vassar? I know its a reach, but is a mid reach? a high reach?

GPA: 3.83 UW
ACT: 31, (35E, 31M, 30R, 28S) <--will retake

ECs are good, but not outstanding... lots of leadership... quite a bit of community service, some involvement in sports, involved in school, lots of work experience/interships... etc.

Thanks for your input! :]

Anyone? I would really appreciate an honest account of Vassar!

Thanks!

I’ve had good luck posting on the “ask a current student” thread. The students have been very helpful. Good luck. You also might try looking at www. - you put in your scores, and ECs and so forth, and they will chance you. It’s been fairly accurate, and you can look at who’s been accepted and what their scores were.

can you take honesty?
if so, I think you’ll either be waitlisted or this will be a HIGH reach.

I think FuturDoc12’s evaluation is pretty pessimistic. My daughter was accepted this year with slightly higher test scores and a slightly lower gpa. As an artsy white girl from a large suburban high school in New England, she didn’t have any of the obvious hooks. She did apply early decision and she put a lot of effort in the application - submitting both an arts supplement and the infamous my space contribution.

Vassar accepted less that 1/3 of its applicants this year. Who knows why they accepted her and declined kids with better gpas and scores. Might have been the ED application, might have been her my space essay, might have been that the adcom read her application after eating chocolate.

Vassar is a pretty quirky place. Do the research and visit if possible. If it seems like your kind of quirky place, apply. Your stats are in the ball park.

Thanks guys! I do appreciate your honest FuturDoc12! As well as your daughter’s story, minutemom. I may apply to Vassar. I still need to visit. But I am looking for quirky, and from what I’ve heard, I think I might really like Vassar.

I think you have a great chance of getting in. My hs gpa was slightly higher than yours and my ACT scores were lower than yours (although I didnt submit). Like minutemom said, it’s mostly about you present yourself! Use the YourSpace option to help you do that!

Yes, Vassar is quirky. you’ll find what you’re looking for. But out of curiosity: what exactly is it about quirky that attracts you?
