I was thinking about the AMRs for housing next year because i like the social atmosphere and location on campus, but all i seem to be hearing is people trashing the AMRs. I was just curious as to what are the cons of the them, why are they bad? Thanks in advance for any responses.

my friend is a frosh this year and she lives in the AMRs and she absolutely loves it.

I stayed with her, and all I can say about them is that they are the standard one room doubles with bathrooms down the halls, having megabytes right there is really convenient, its not that far from stuff, they have lounges with pool and ping pong tables. They aren't amazing or anything, but they didnt seem much different than any other shcool's traditional dorms.

i actually roomed in amr 2 for summer camp 2 years ago, and i thought that they were really nice. the halls spacious, and as i remember the rooms were air conditioned. also the furniture and beds were normal to good.

I applied ED and already turned in my housing forms, and I actually requested AMRs as my first choice. Call me crazy, but I don't care about having my own personal bathroom - I'd hate to have to clean it. I like group bathrooms, because now at school my friends and I bring music and shower at the same time. It's just a lot of fun. I'd say if you don't mind bringing your own fan, the AMRs sound like they'd be a good time.

misery loves company :)

Thanks for all the positive feedback, i feel much better about my decision to choice those dorms.

the amr's aren't climate controlled.

maybe just during the summer courses?

Yea, the AC is just for summer students. With a decent fan, the heat isn't TOO bad at the beginning and end of the year, though it can get annoying while your getting used to the transition in weather. The AMR's are the place to room Freshman year if you want the best social atmosphere. The rooms are about the same as most other college dorms, and you may get lucky and get my single, which is the biggest a Freshman can get. It's just as big as some of the doubles here. I would definetley choose the AMR's again if I had to repeat Freshman year.

I visited AMRs and they were nice. I liked the fact that they were close to everything..

They don't have AC although they are doing a bunch of renovations for the coming year. They should have carpeting by the end of summer as well. I lived in a single in AMR 2 and loved the single but I was ready to move on from the building. They don't clean it that well so be sure to take advantage of the maintenance request form (I had them clean the stairs and showers and fix various things, which they do fairly quickly). It's more social particuarly at the beginning of the year when it's most important.
