@UCLAFFF I’m assuming you applied to UCLA for a non-selective major?
@bowling555 I got a B in Calculus 1. It was super hard imo. I had a hard time understanding the concept of limits.
@bowling555 No, my major is highly selective.
It probably wasn’t the intention, but I would be wary of minimizing the accomplishments of @UCLAFFF
He was admitted to a very competitive major and comes from a background of great hardship. GPA is important but not everything. UCLA realizes this and admitted @UCLAFFF due to him overcoming great odds.
He did not take an easy path into UCLA.
@itakenotes : I think Limits were the hardest part to understand conceptually in Calc 1 Class. After that section, you don’t use limits at all.
@bowling555 tell your story and try to do as best you can but apply to wherever you can imagine yourself going. I’m going to UCLA and got in with a 3.41, but my major is philosophy. Good luck.
@bowling555 and I failed all my courses one semester… I retook them all and got a couple C’s in other courses too.
@csmcam: I am a 19 year old college student with Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, and OCD who has had trouble in school due to having trouble fitting in with others and often felt isolated due to life being extremely overwhelming; As a result of my difficulty in making friends, it has impacted how I performed in school and have very low self esteem and self confidence. I did really well in Math and Science courses in High School (I took a couple Honors courses), but my study skills were crap and have trouble organizing myself. I really want to do well in life, but I can’t figure out which direction (probably engineering, my dad is a physicist/engineer and my mom is an accountant) to go in because the job market is hard to navigate and often feel like I’m comparing myself to my more studious classmates.
The point of a GPA is that it averages it out. Don’t worry about it too much, keep the rest of your grades up.
@Burdened : I had a 3.4 GPA last semester (classes were also easier), and because I got a “C” in Calculus which was a 5 unit class, I now have a 2.65 GPA, and I am so pissed. My dad tells me “It’s okay, you have a learning disability”, but i’m not buying it.
@bowling555 It will come back to haunt you again in Calculus II. Hahaha watch out.
I couldn’t even pass Calculus. Glad I did P/NP on it. But I won’t re-take it because it’ll be my 3rd try…
