So I’ve decided that I’m going to change my major from math to business-econ. I’m taking accounting, programming, and linear algebra and I want to drop the latter two because I have no motivation to complete these courses since they are irrelevant to my major now and I don’t understand them at all.
I am currently failing both of those classes while struggling with mental health issues and constant stress due to family drama and finances. I have a 3.7 GPA and I’m not a bad student but I’m just going through a rough time right now. Is it better to stick it out and probably fail or just drop the classes and be done with it? Do I have any other options?
Talk to 1) a counselor at your college and 2) your advisor.
I’m asking how it looks from an employer’s perspective.
So long a these Ws are non-punitive and don’t count against your GPA you are fine. The only caveat is if you are on financial aid or have a merit scholarship and fall below full time status. This could cause some issues.
I would suggest, as mentioned above, to see your counselor or adviser right away so you can make your decision and not miss the withdrawal deadline.
Good luck.
Two W’s are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than two F’s.
If you continue on with a minimal number of W’s then noone will bat an eyelash.
HOWEVER, talk to your adviser first. If you Withdraw from two classes you probably won’t be full time anymore and that has great implications for housing and financial aid. You can’t live in a dorm if you are not full time.
