How bad does a C look on your high school transcript?

My UC GPA is a 4.1, BUT I have a 3.6 unweighted. Yes, I have taken into account the eight class cut off. It still is a 4.1.

I also have a good amount of extra curricular
6 week intern for a doctor/professor at UCI over two summers
Played oboe for 5 years
Danced for 13 years.
And there's some other stuff too I just don't want to list it out.

My main question is will the C have a major impact on me getting into a UC school besides Riverside, Merced, and Santa Cruz (I like those schools! I just want to go to a UC with a good biology program, I swear I have nothing against those three.)

I'm really scared, it was in Physics and I can't understand it if my life depended on it.

Also, I got the C first semester and dropped it second semester because I knew that it was going to be harder to not get a C. I'm pretty sure that will look bad, too. Please help!

When did you get your C?
UCs ignore freshman year

It was in junior year so it does show up on my transcript.

A C will always look bad, but if your other grades are good (particularly in biology since that is what you want to major in) the UCs might forgive your Physics grade. Also coupled with a good SAT score (2000+) or a good ACT score (30+) you should be fine. Your weighted GPA is actually pretty good. For reference, UCB (the highest ranked UC school) had an average GPA of 4.16 for last year’s admitted freshman. So I’d say you should be alright.

Answer my question please? It is very similar to your question actually.

Could you post some SAT or ACT scores so that we can chance you rather than guess.

Yes, the first time I took the SATs I got a 1940. But I am going to retake it 2 more times and hopefully do better. My goal is above a 2100.

I know a girl who got two C’s her junior year and got into UVA. If you rock the rest of your application, top schools might overlook it.

Get as many practice tests as possible. Proctored exams are provided by Princeton review and I highly recommend them. But you could take Barron"s and ask your family to give you a proctored exam. Our daughter has 2 Cs but a 2380 in SAT1, got into Vanderbilt. So, great things can happen to you if you can raise your SAT scores as high as possible.

A lone C won’t help, but you should generally be OK as long as you are still in the top 10% of your class.

HOLY!.. Someone please confirm what JustinBryce said is true, I got a C+ first semester of Geometry Honors, so I thought I was basically scrwed for all the uc’s like berk. or LA. My unwiehgted is also a 3.6, don’t know how to cal. UC gpa, some please tell me how to, and if what Justin said is truw, thanks!

You can calculate your UC GPA by making all the AP/ WEIGHTED HONORS (look on the UC website for which honors classes are weighted and non-weighted) worth five points, and all of the non AP/H classes worth four. Add everything up and divide by the amount of classes(x2) you are taking. So for example my sophomore year only:

AP Euro B/B
H. Brit Lit (non weighted) A/A
H Alg2/ Trig (non weighted) B/B
Spanish 2 A/B
Spanish 3 A/A
Band A/A
Chem B/B

Weighted: (4+4+4+4+3+3+3+4+4+4+4+4+3+3)/7(2) or 51/14 = 3.67
But keep in mind this is my UC GPA

My unweighted is: 49/14 = 3.5

And yes, they only take into account your sophomore and junior year.

Unless you had more than 1 C on your transcript you should be fine.
