How Bad does it look if I have a grade forgiven?

My GPA isn't super high either, so I'm wondering how a forgiven grade would look on my transcrpit especially if it means my GPA dropping below a 3.0 if they factor in the previous grade?

Great question!

Someone please answer. I have 3 D’s and an F that are in the process of being forgiven from Santa Monica College (Los Angeles) back in 2001. I got a D in acting, D in Anthro (phyisical), D in Algebra, and an F in Algebra. Since then I’ve maintianed a 3.47 GPA getting an A in both Acting and Antropology with a C being the low grade for math…I suck at that subject.

Yeah, any help answering this question is much appreciated.

I can’t speak for high school, but I know 100%, for sure, that for transfer students, grade forgiveness is NOT calculated into your GPA. So your 3 D’s and your F will be calculated in your GPA that UF calculates, along with the new grades you have received for those courses.

UF gives absolutely no grade forgiveness for any subjects you took at CC. So, you would need to factor those grades in and see if your GPA still meets the 3.0. Don’t let those necessarily discourage you from applying though. I had 1 D and 1 F at CC in math and still got in(but math isn’t part of my major).

The major thing most UF colleges care about is your grades in the prerequisites they require. If you have A’s in those you’ve always got a chance.

Like others have said, they’ll care because they don’t do grade forgiveness. So all attempts at a class are factored into your GPA. With that said, I was admitted with four F’s that I’d retaken and gotten A’s in.

Granted, in my essay I sent I explained that I was sick and had to stop going to class, but wasn’t aware I could have the grades taken off because of that. When I’d found out it was much too late.

Just make sure your GPA is high with those factored in and you’ll be fine.

I would like to know if they do this for high school grades. I am retaking several courses in virtual school, and I would like to know if the better grades get calculated into my transcript.

^bird, are you transferring or coming in as a freshman? If transferring then it doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t even waste your time with doing that because I don’t think they even look at high school grades for transfers.

I dropped out of ucf a few years back and started at my cc with a 1.4 gpa. I brought it up to a 3.54.

As an engineering transfer, they told me they cared mainly about my pre pofessional courses and I was accepted

Steel, I’m talking about incoming freshman

Thanks guys.

Kinda sucks because when I factor in the 3D’s and F I get something like a 2.5. I have A’s in all 5 of the prerequisites (Sports Management) though. I’ll apply and hopefully along with my essay they’ll see I’m a good student who simply F’d up 10 years ago.

Thanks that helps a lot. too bad the class was in my major :frowning: but yeah I’ll work on getting my GPA up and hopefully they’ll see my improvement.

Sweet great responses UF students, gives me some hope at applying for spring semester next year! : )
