How bad does it look...

...if you take the SAT for a second time, and get a LOWER score than your first attempt?

(I only have two shots, haven't taken it yet -- October and December)

Really, nobody cares. They just take the highest score or superscore. They don't look at the others.

Any more opinions? What if my uni doesn't super score?

What kind of opinions do you want? If the college says it only considers the top score (which most do), do not bother obssessing about their "true" behaviour.

isn't it better if you leave a gap between the two SATs? like if you take it in october, you should take your 2nd try on may or june because that way you'll actually see a score improvement. by taking it in december you might not improve as much. but then again its up to you, i don't know how it works for you.

Wish I had time till may, I'm applying for Fall 09.

Why do you think you'll do badly the first time?

Colleges don't hold two scores against you even if you don't do as well the second time. You'll get your October scores back before you take the December test, so you can always decide to back out. Another strategy is to go ahead and send the colleges your October scores. If you bomb December, there is no law that says you have to tell CB to send an updated score report. If you do better in Dec, you send a new score report. Personally I think this is over-strategizing, but it makes some people feel safer.

That extra strategy sounds promising, lol

But...don't I have to tell the university my test dates? so, If I tell them december and don't send -- problem.
If I don't tell them, take, score better, and send -- problem?

Confused. Dense. Sorry.

No, you don't have to announce the dates that you plan to take. You take December, get great scores, send them to your colleges, and they attach them to your file.

But think positive and ace October. Good luck.
