my friend told me today that this kid in her physics class got caught cheating on a test today and it looks like he got sent to the principal and everything. problem is is that he's the senior valedictorian! (I AM NOT KIDDING ON THIS ONE!) and he happens to be a really nice kid with leadership positions and lots of community service hours. is he really screwed? one of my other friends used to date him and she's told me that he's gonna try to get into top 20 and 30 caliber schools

if that gets reported to colleges....then heck yes he's screwed.

he is. but it's not impossible to get into great schools.

he deserves it. probably cheated his way to valedictorian.

everyone cheats their way to everything, get over yourself, and stop being jealous that he (almost) cheated better than you. Unfortunately, like all overachieving cheaters, he pushed too far and got caught

the trick is to cheat your way to success but still look like a failure (hovering on that D/C for most of the semester and then kicking it up to a B/A right at the end)

I hope you're very proud of your accomplishments

Anyway, if he's the senior valedictorian and he got caught cheating, I think there's more to worry about for him than whether or not he's going to make it into a good college. Then his whole valedictorian status is put into question and whether or not he deserved all the grades he got. I think it's funny when people who seem all good and perfect have some fatal flaw in them that ultimately brings their downfall. It's quite fun to watch, really.

P.S. No, I'm not saying this out of jealousy because I'm at the top of my class, so I feel like I have a right to say all that has been said.

it's borderline hamartia :(

Having to explain cheating on your record to colleges is very very bad. It reflects extremely poorly on a person. Cheating at most colleges, for example, is grounds for automatic dismissal.

Lesson? Don't cheat. It's just not worth it.

I hope he gets denied everywhere. As someone who NEVER cheats it's very annoying when you find other people cheating especially, when IT'S OFF OF YOU. DIE CHEATERS DIE, DIE IN A HORRIBLE HELL FIRE.

if you cheat you are only cheating yourself. Cheaters are primarily the ones that end up dropping college. Pay all this money and find out you cant handle it.

cheating is bad.

i don;t get it...why do people cheat...if you cheat and get into a top tier college...u're get dropped b/c you don;t no anything...the main pt of the admission process is to make sure you don;t get dropped once you get in...

He should be made an example of. Either the guidance counselor or the Principal should inform the colleges. I know this particular boy's academic dreams will probably be shattered, but the lesson that is imparted to the rest of the kids is well worth it!

cheating is great. cheating to get into a top college is great. cheating while at a top college is great. I mean honestly, look at the girl @ harvard who plagiarized large portions of a novel she claimed to have written. Nothing too bad happened to her.

in summary: cheating r0x

Cheating is bad, but I would need to hear more on the circumstances before I recommend that he should be banned from going to anything but community college.

"He should be made an example of. Either the guidance counselor or the Principal should inform the colleges. I know this particular boy's academic dreams will probably be shattered, but the lesson that is imparted to the rest of the kids is well worth it!"

Oh, that's a nice idea. And should you be the next sacrafice for the rest of the students?

I think cheating is mainly a problem of the cheater's own morales. I'd much rather take a F than to turn myself into something I'll be ashamed of.

Why? For what? I don't cheat...

If you cheat you are not only cheating yourself. You are cheating all of your classmates who should be ahead of you in the class and now - because of your dishonesty - are behind you. You may be cheatining someone else out being Valedictorian instead of you - maybe cheating them out of the college that they would have been admitted to but foir you. Cheating them out of the pride of accomplishment they would have had on graduation day. You are not just cheating; you are stealing that from them. that's why other students should report cheaters.
Nevertheless, it's sad what this incident may do to this cheater.

everyone on CC can get off their high and mighty horses now.

everyone cheats sometimes. talking about homework, tests before or afterwards, or cutting any small corners IS cheating. i do not condone general, blatant cheating, but i do not think anyone should condemn this kid without knowing the full story.

you tell me you've never cheated? i don't believe you. you've never casually glanced at a paper, talked about a test? bull****. As i said, i do believe consistent, blatant cheating is certainly wrong, and no one should be allowed to be valedictorian if they cheated their way to the top. But when you take 7+ AP classes, no one should be villified for cutting a corner here or there. i'm only being a realist.
