How bad have I screwed up??

I'm a sophomore at a very good highschool in northern california. I got straight A's in Middle school. But in my freshman year I found myself confused I guess by thinking that highschool was going to be just as easy as middle school. I finished my freshman year off by getting a gpa of 3.44. For my first semester of sophomore I have a 3.7 weighted and a 3.50 unweighted, however two of those B's would not have occured if I was not on the tennis team at the beginning of the year, (i didn't know how to handle tennis and school). Next semester I think i can get a 3.9 for sure. Do you think I can still get into good colleges. I want to someday go to medical school. My colleges of interest are UCLA, UCSB, USC, Boston University, Brown, UPenn, Cornell, Columbia...etc. Please be honest. Thank you so much!

I think you still have a chance at those colleges. Make sure you do good on the SAT and keep with the upward grade trend. Your junior year is the most important, so don't slack come 11th grade.

Besides, grades aren't everything at the top tier/ivy schools. There are a ton of perfect 4.0 UW GPA applicants, so they often have to choose based on EC's, awards, achievements, etc.

anyone with "chick", "hot", or "sexy" in their sn isn't getting in anywhere

innocentstalker, however, is a guaranteed harvard admit :D

you are doing fine. just keep doing well, do well on the SATs and try to keep up some really good extracurriculars. dont stress.

Keep working hard, make sure you get involved in your ECs, get your GPA to around a 3.8, get a good SAT/ACT, SAT II, and I'm sure you will stand a chance at those schools (I'm not saying you'll get in for sure, but you'll stand a chance :) )

Hmm. Also, I'm kind of like you. I had straight A's throughout middle school, never even got an A- actually. All A's. I remember talking to my friends that were in high school telling them I'd think the worse I would do would be a 3.7.

By my senior year, I've already managed to get all the grades between an A and a C+ and I'm still doing fine :). Don't stress too much and keep working hard.

How bad*ly have I screwed up?? [/grammarnazi]

Anyway, never give up your passions for something so dumb. Your GPA is just a little number that goes on a sheet of paper. Who cares? Go to tennis and have fun, go to school and learn, and stop worrying about that little number.

I screwed up my sophmore year by having a negative attitude toward a couple classes and so didn't even try hard in them. I ended up getting a B average, as opposed to my straight A middle school record and A average in freshman year. I also screwed up the SAT IIs because I took them lightly and thought of them as a practice and that I could cancel the score anytime and not have college see it at all if I didn't want to. Turned out to be all fake and now I'm stuck with B average record in sophomore year and bad SAT IIs. Now I wish I could relive my soph year and change everything.
You are now in the middle of your soph. year. You have time. Take everything seriously and do not even slack off on anything, even if on things you don't like. Keep up a good average and do the things the CCers posted above and you will be fine.

Just bring your grades up starting now! You can't change what happened, so don't dwell on it. Don't freak out about it either - high school has its share of fun, and make sure not to forget about it! Just stay on top of your work in the future, and do any extras when you get the chance...you'll be just fine. :]

Past semester got a 2.3 GPA...yup! Now if I get around a 3.5 at the end then I'm a shoe in. My strategy. xD

it's really not that bad. you still have time to get your GPA up.
but remember colleges look at more than the GPA. ECs are also important, so don't quit everything just to work on grades.
