To give some background I consider myself a generally good student. Most people on this site make me feel inferior ;P, but I've managed to obtain a 4.6 GPA and 3 APs and 1 honors class this year. My SAT isn't that highest, but it is in the 2000s, so I am not totally dumb.

This year I took 3 AP classes; USH, Chemistry, and Language.

I got 4s in Language and USH, but a 1 in Chemistry. I blame this one on a faulty teacher and me pushing it to the side to make room for my other classes. (I spent a lot of time on English - should have been a 5, and USH - but most of my time was spent on a Pre-Calc class).

I wasn't going to take the AP Chem test, but was encouraged to by my teacher and peers and I got a 1 on the AP test. Most of peers around me all got 2's (about 4 or 5 students).

My question is, how much will this 1 haunt me? Is it truly used for admission, or just placement? I got a 5 in AP Bio last year, could that replace my "Science Grade"? I also dream of going to those prestigious colleges, is that out of the question now? Is there anyway to erase this one grade? I know I'm taking about 5 AP classes next year, so I can "redeem" myself I hope. I just wasn't prepared for this AP test - (along the lines of, we did no work, had no tests in the class, and never opened our book).

Should I be freaking out? I couldn't sleep last night...Are my dreams shot down?

You probably skipped a question and didn't realize it.

Relax, most colleges don't require you to tell them all your AP grades. I didn't tell about my 3 on APUS, and was still accepted by Princeton.

calm down....

Take the test next year.

At least you didn't get a 200 on the SATs. Now you should lose sleep over that.

exactly. :) don't send it to college. they'll never know u made a 1 unless u tell them. I just kinda blank out some of my AP scores from my memory? What? I took the English Language exam? When? :) See what I mean?

you can actually pay the collegeboard a fee and have your score removed from records if its haunting you that much.

really? i didn't know you could do that. What I know for sure is just not include it on the lists of APs you send to colleges. i don't know if they've changed it really recently or not. :S shame on me for not knowing everything

ploniusmouth: at least its not shame on you for knowing NOTHING.

I seriously could have gotten a 2/3 right after chemistry, not even the AP.

You can't have the score removed from the records this late but you can pay CB a fee (I think its $15) to withhold one test from one score report. It would be just like you didn't even take the test. When applying to colleges, however, most schools don't require you to submit APs, and when you do send them in, colleges say that they can only help you (your 4s in English and US), not hurt you. I don't know if I trust what they say, however...

That's true, they're only supposed to help.
And the canceling AP scores from the record forever is news to me .. I thought you could just cancel it from the AP report sent colleges.

Thanks for the advice guys, that was my main concern about the colleges. I might investigate a bit on the cancelling of it, or witholding of it, but we'll see. If I can just leave it out when I send the report that'd be the best. It's good to know I didnt destroy any chances I have. Being an AP Scholar is of secondary importance, but I know this 1 definitely hurts, I'll have to try and get lots of 5s next year.

Cancelling it from the AP report sent to colleges in my mind means you have to option to not send that score to anyone, thus 'erasing' it from you r record. Anyways lets not get into that because its not important and I don't know if that score will ever 'hurt' you. Just don't report it to colleges and learn from your mistakes(plural).
