how bad is a B- on your transcript for T14s?

I have a 3.87 GPA right now but I did receive a B- in one of my classes. Will T14 law schools look unfavorably at this B- or is the number (the 3.87) all they care about?

just the cumulative gpa matters

I've known people with a couple C's (cum 3.6) who rocked their LSAT (176) and gotten into Columbia Law. It's the cumulative that matters and the LSAT far outweighs GPA.

I have a C, but the cumulative was fine and it didn't hold me back.

You got into Harvard, right? What was the C in?

Organic chemistry.

Orgo sucks

yo bluedevil mike what should be a good target gpa for a white male econ major in trinity '11 looking at hls? i finished my first year with a 4.0 but the higher level econ classes might hurt later ...

also, do you know if you get any different consideration if you are also applying for hbs? does coming from a major ibank help at all?

finally, what kinda duke ec's are worth pursuing for law? which are totally worthless?

thanks!

LSAT is the key factor, not GPA. Slipping below a 3.7 probably finishes you at HLS no matter what your LSAT is, but otherwise the process is much more LSAT dependent than GPA dependent.

Dual degree admissions are conducted separately from each other. HBS will either admit or reject you (based on work experience, mostly); HLS will either admit or reject you (based on the LSAT, mostly); the two processes don't intersect much if at all.

As long as you're doing something useful, law school won't care too much about your EC's. Pick something you like and run with it.

I had a C+ and a B- and was in at HLS too.

I do think coming from a major ibank/consulting firm does help a bit though.

I hate this thread
