How Bad is and F on your transcript?

Ok so hear is the deal. I applyed to transfer to the University of Florida for Spring 2014 a month ago. By the end of fall 2013 i will have my 60 credits. I have a 3.3-3.4GPA (Not 100% sure) and a 4.0 GPA in my major-related courses (criminology). I am currently taking 15 credit hours (5 classes) at a community college.

One of the classes, AMH 2020 (American History 1865-P) I am failing. I did not put my best effort at all into this course, but it is very difficult. Not because I cannot understand, but because the professor lectures on nothing related to the test, the book doesn't help, and I have a low F I believe. We will have a 6-page book report on a book idk A thing about or want to know about, the final, and a test. If i get a 75 or better on all 3 and get full "participation"( yes he takes attendance and daily mini quizzes, which I wont get full credit for) then I will have around a 61-63%. It would help a ton if I could focus on my other classes (2 major related) and I feel as if there is no hope left for this class. I feel that even if I put a TON of work into it, i might not even still pass and it would be a complete waste, and that I am better off just not showing up anymore.

I am past the drop date so that is not an option. Anyway, how bad exactly would 1 F on my transcript affect me? I wont ever get another and technically, UF would not no about it now(if i were to get accepted).

Thanks for the advice in advance. If I dont get accepted to transfer to UF, i wont be crushed as I am fine with going to USF or maybe even UCF.

really bad, especially if a) it brings your GPA down significantly below the GPA required for transfer students and if b) it counts towards your intended major. Also, you HAVE to report that F to UF if you were to get accepted, otherwise, if they do a randomized check via the National Clearinghouse and see that you didn’t report that F, you’d be in big trouble.

I of course would report my final two semesters to UF if i were to get accepted. What do you think my chances of getting accepted to UCF of USF would be with the F?

Also, even if I would get a D would it make that big of a difference?

Can you withdraw and get a W instead?

No the deadline is up. I have had trouble trying to login to the site to drop it, so I am going to talk to the someone tomorrow and see if it is possible, since I couldnt drop it due to technical problems on their end. If not the “Grade forgiveness policy” is as follows:

The Grade Forgiveness Policy permits students to repeat a course in an attempt to improve a grade of “D” or “F”. A student will be limited to two repeats per course, or a total of three attempts. Upon the third attempt, the student is not permitted to withdraw from the course and the grade assigned is the final grade for the course. Course withdrawals and earned grades count toward the maximum attempts.

Only the last grade earned in a repeated course will be computed into the grade point average at Edison State, provided that the last assigned grade is not a “W” or an “X” (Audit). However, all grades will appear on the transcript.

So i could retake it, and get a better grade. Would that be the best thing to do? Or would I be better off getting a D and retaking it or just failing and retaking?

just retake and explain it
