how bad is AP biology?

I want to take AP biology next year but everyone at my school keeps discouraging me. So I'd like to know just how bad it is. I took honors biology this year and I currently have an A. Basically i just want to know howdifficult the class is

it’s essentially just honors biology but more in-depth. i didn’t find it very difficult (i skipped normally biology at my school) but it varys from person to person

I never took it but my brother said it was really hard. It is a lot of memorizing information and lots of work. If you are good at English and Reading people say you will do good but if you are better at math you would most likely do better in AP Chemistry.

*how difficult

Thank you!

It’s not that hard if you read what your teacher tells you to read and do the homework you’re supposed to do.

I took it last year and thought it was pretty straightforward. I didn’t find it too difficult, but then again I’m good at science.

Plus, if I remember correctly, the collegeboard changed the AP Bio curriculum and test for this year. The change took out parts of photosynthesis and respiration I believe, and I found those to be the most challenging topics.

It was fairly easy in my experience. You need a good memory, but I never had to literally sit down and memorize it. The book had really good pictures that allowed me to visualize processes easily. :)

It’s not hard it’s just a lot to take in at once. Tests in that class can cover three to four chapters which is a lot. As a guinea pig for the new curriculum, It’s definitely more difficult because it’s more application questions which forces the students to know detailed processes. The first half of the class is what you’ve learned in regular biology and the second half is new material. Only take it if you’re dedicated and wish to learn the material.

I guess it’s just my class then because my bio teacher’s tests are so obscure that the normal class average is 50% (highest = 80’s/70’s)… and she doesn’t curve.

Guys, there’s a new test… Starting next year/year afterwards, most schools’ curriculums should have changed to reflect that.

It’s just a lot of work at my school, but really not bad at all. People kept discouraging me too last year and wished me “good luck.” I have had A since the beginning of the year…

@Leerin LOL the new AP biology exam starts this May FYI…My teacher told us about this in September.

It is just a lot of work, but the concepts are not difficult to understand.

Depends on the way the class is taught. The only way I pass my tests is by taking my own notes entirely, since my teacher prefers doing four labs at once rather than actually teaching us anything. I find it challenging.

I’m glad I waited until college to take it, because I got the easiest professor ever and got an A without doing any work or studying. He gave us the exact questions to the tests a week before we took them.

AP Bio is difficult, and every teacher will teach it differently. It’s my absolute favorite class this year - I have a wonderful teacher who really cares about the class and the material, and his teaching reflects that. So I’m lucky.

Either way, though, if you’re a science person, you will probably love it.

LOVED AP BIO, but I took it over 8 years ago. Haha, it was a great experience, and it really pushed me to work hard in General College Biology! TAKE IT!

Thank you for your responses! I’ve decided to take AP biology(:

don’t know but want to take it sometime and sounds fun
