How bad is having two finals on the same day?

3 of my classes have a final. One is on a monday and the next two is on the next day, Tuesday. For Tuesday one is during the morning and one is during the night.

Is this that bad having two finals on the same day? On the brighter side I get to knock out my finals all in two days.

i had trouble with it…the second one will be hard

I don’t think it’s a big deal. Lots of people are in this same situation every quarter. I even know people who have had three finals on one day.

Naaaaaaw. Whatever dawg. I mean… just look at your brighter side and forget all your troubles.

But hell I love tests… I’d even take em back to back.

I would avoid having two finals as much as possible. I had to shift my schedule around so much because of that.

I guess it’s all relative, but even still…

you have the whole stupid quarter. you know when the final is. don’t wait till the last minute to study.
if need be, there’s no reason why you can’t start reviewing in week 10. Read ahead or ask your profs/TAs for a bit of stuff if you don’t understand it.

congrats, you have deadlines. deal with them ahead of time.

Really, it depends on what classes they are for and how easy you think the class is. Like if you had a physics exam and then a chem exam the same day? Honestly, I’d die.

It also depends on how your study habits are. If you have always been a procrastinator and you MUST cram before a test, do NOT have two finals the same day!!! Cramming sufficiently for both will be almost impossible and you will most likely have to compromise one for the other. You may “have the whole stupid quarter” but if you are a compulsive procrastinator the whole stupid quarter will go wasted and your most productive days will be your cramming ones.

If you can keep up with reading and studying and are good about NOT cramming, then by all means, go for as many finals in one day as possible.

avoid them if you can

i had organic chem and molecular biology both on monday last quarter (2nd year) and i got my first A- in a science class. next time im checking my finals dates, as finals are so important to the outcome of the class

it depends on how easy/hard you think the classes are and whether theyre study intensive classes. my two classes were indeed study intensive. i’ve done Monday tuesday back to back but thats easy compared to monday monday as you get extra 24 hrs to study.

It’s not that bad as long as you can manage your time wisely and not just have a heavy-duty cram session the weekend before finals week, you’ll be fine. I had 2 finals on the same day last quarter, 8AM and 1PM and I managed to do pretty good on both. The main thing is just not to leave it all to the last minute.

Having two exams in one day isn’t bad as it seems:

If you’re worried about the time that each exam session takes, don’t worry about it. From my experience, you’ll be BEGGING for more time per each session. Assuming you studied and know the content such that you can potentially do well in the exam, time will go fast.

For the time it takes you to fully study for a single exam on a single day, I HIGHLY recommend you to reserve 2.5 times more to study for two exams on a single day. For example, suppose it takes you 6 hours to study for a single exam, what I would do is take 15 hours to study for two exams: 6 hours to study for the 1st exam, 6 hours to study for the 2nd exam, and 3 hours to re-study the first exam.

If you have to focus on only one of the two exams, either because you slacked off or still feel lacking, and both courses are of same value, focus on the 1st exam you will take because one factor whether or not you’ll do well on the 2nd exam is whether or not you did well on your 1st. If you did well on your 1st, your morale and outlook will be bright. However, if you did not do well on your 1st, you will be extremely distracted when you take the 2nd.

SLEEP. You might be able to get away with the 1st final without sleep if it’s held on early mornings, but you will suffer on your 2nd final. DON’T YOU DARE THINK YOU CAN RECOVER SOME OF THAT LOST SLEEP BY SLEEPING IN THE GAP BETWEEN YOUR 1ST AND 2ND EXAM. My friend overslept and never took the 2nd despite having an alarm clock and me persistently calling him over his cellphone.

In my opinion, if you didn’t do well on both exams on a single day, chances are high you wouldn’t have done well anyways even if the exams were taken on different days. I’ve had two occasions where I had two finals in a single day and they weren’t bad at all. I could say that the extra pressure/stress helped me focus more. You just have to be more prepared beforehand and manage your time wisely…which goes for any exams.

I had both Chem and Bio on the first day(Monday) of my first Fall Quarter. And it wasn’t bad at all, plus I went on vacation almost a week earlier than everyone! Be happy you finish on tuesday, more time to relax!
