How bad is it if I send in transcripts past the deadline?

I'm applying to around 10 colleges on the common app. Before I left for winter break, I forgot to ask my counselor to send out my transcripts. The earliest they'll go out is probably Jan 6 when the deadline was Jan 1. Will this affect my application?

I’ve received some emails from some of the colleges I’m applying to saying that’s fine to send out transcripts passed the deadline since counselors are out for winter break. I personally held off sending some of mine since teachers put final first semester grades in on January 5th, and I want my first semester senior grades on the transcripts I send. All the emails I received said to have your common application submitted by the deadline (or it can be a day late if you have trouble submitting it). So as long as your actual application is submitted by January 1st, I think you’ll be fine.

Agree with above. Your application has to be on time. There’s usually a little leeway for recommenders and transcript.

This is a good excuse to contact admissions. Ask politely and make a good impression.

@Momzie most of the admission offices are closed due to the holidays.

I emailed a few colleges this same question before they closed and all but one explicitly said that it was perfectly fine if supporting materials(transcripts, LORs) were sent in past the deadline as long as they were received in a timely manner.

Your application is due by the deadline. Transcripts are due when first semester grades are available. Since for many schools, that’s not until mid-to-late January, everyone has until then to submit their transcripts and other supporting materials. It’s not like they lock the door on Jan. 1. and start furiously reading until late March. Just get everything other than the application in as soon as possible.
