How bad is it if you fail your AP?

If you get like a 2 or something, will colleges hold that against you or simply not accept it for credit (but still not consider it as a "negative" in your application)? Or will they consider it as a negative (as if you'd gotten a bad grade in any class or something)?

What I mean is, how bad is it to fail an AP in regards to college acceptance?

While reading this the other day
[University of California - AP credits](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/ap-credits/index.html)
I found this:

This would only be applicable to UCs.

Awesome thanks! Any info on other colleges?

If you’re applying to a top college then yes, they will see it as a negative. But don’t assume that you have to get all 5’s to get in. But say you want to major in Chem then you should get a 5 in the AP chem exam.

Ok, thanks. Then, would a 3 be considered negative or simply neutral?

can’t you could cancel your ap scores?

microphakia: i don’t know… can you?

I’d just like to note that even top colleges say AP test scores do not play a very big role in admissions decisions.

And yes, you can cancel your AP test scores at any time by sending a request to the collegeboard. It’ll be as though you never took the test.
