I'm feeling pretty crummy about my UMich application, because I didn't know they didn't accept rushed scores. I'll have to wait an additional month or so before they even look at my application (and the earliest I would probably be able to send it is this weekend--I don't know about my teachers though!). I'm pretty borderline, so applying late isn't the best thing for me to do. Help..

Out of state applications tend to come in a little later than instate, so you're not as "late" as you would be if you lived in Michigan.

Get the app in as soon as possible, even if the lack of scores will leave it incomplete.

wait krabble, you cant rush scores there?

michigan's admissions website specifically says that rush scores of ACT or SAT aren't accepted

I guess I'll just have to send everything (on my part) in as soon as humanly possible, and I can't really do anything about it now. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.. thanks! Does anyone know what the typical acceptee's stats are (out of state)? Also, how much emphasis do they place on the essays? I can do them all in one day, but they won't be very creative, instead they'll probably be very right-to-the-point and pretty bland but informative. I have a feeling they don't read too much into the essay anyway, but someone correct me if I'm wrong about it! Thanks!!

I think your assumptions are pretty much right. The presentation at my magnet school the lady said essays have never kept anyone out.

I don't want to turn this into a chances thread, but if anyone could quickly evaluate my chances/weaknesses/strengths/and any other thoughts of advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

PA Asian male (right outside of Philly)
SAT I:
650 CR
720 M
710 W

SAT II:
760 Chem
*took Math 2 in Nov. but they won't be seeing this score, because I already sent my score report and Nov. test scores have not been released

GPA: 4.35 out of 4.6 (weighted)
Rank: 22 out of 650 (top 5%)
*Not sure of my unweighted GPA, but I got two B's in English and History in 11th grade

EC's: 1 varsity sport and school clubs

Your test scores are ok...being Asian won't help you. Your unweighted GPA is probably 3.8+, so you're about on par with most applicants.

Am I doomed if I send in all of my application (excluding test scores) by next week?

Well I've read that rushed test scores don't necessarily reach schools faster. They get the regular scores right onto their databases. The rushed ones come in paper form and are not necessarily in the correct format for evaluation (i.e. they're not ready in time to be evaluated, whereas regular scores are). I wouldn't worry so much about the scores. When was the deadline? Is this for Early Action/Decision? If so, then get on top of your teachers and counselor. BUG THEM TO NO END IF YOU MUST! I really wish you the best of luck!

UMich uses rolling admissions and the deadline is not for a few weeks, but every second I waste lowers my chances. I've already given my teacher and counselor their forms and they told me that they'd try their best to get it in this coming week. Ugh!

Hmm... well if they're trying your best than that's a good sign. I know how you feel about every precious second. I hate to procrastinate, but I do it a lot. Fortunately I got all of my Harvard stuff in on time! Good luck! Wish me good luck too!! EA at Harvard is EXTREMELY competitive. :-) Later!

I'll bump this up!

I think I'll be able to send out my part of the application by this weekend. Will it really matter that much since my SAT scores won't reach them for at least a month (I send them last week)?

When is the final deadline (if any - unless this is rolling admissions), and when are decisions made? If we know that, we'll be able to help you better :D

-Jon

The deadline is Feb. 1 and it's rolling. They review your app as soon as they have time. I don't think your chances are affected that much by sending your app a few weeks later. You guys are overblowing it.

Its rolling admissions...deadline is February 15 I think and they do decisions by batches.

I realized that I probably won't be able to submit (electronically) my application until Thanksgiving break next week. I have a few tests in the beginning of this week as well as a project and term paper, which I still need to finish.

I haven't sent mine either, and I LIVE in ann arbor... so yeah... I think you're fine, a lady at the admissions office said that she didn't send hers till June, and she got in... not that I'd advise doing that... but you should be okay. If you're borderline, the essays probably will help, but if you've got the grades, it shouldn't be a problem.

KRabble88, your application has priority. If you prioritize, you'll get it done. Otherwise, you're just going to keep worrying about all the other obligations you have - AND YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING DONE! Take a deep breath, relax, and get cracking! Good luck to you!
