Freshman year I got 4 A-s and one B+ in my academic classes, and this year I had a bad year outside of school so my grades are probably going to be (haven't gotten my final report card yet) one A, maybe one A-, and at least one B-, the other two will be some B range grade (could really fall anywhere in that spectrum). So ignoring extracurriculars, are there colleges that no matter how well I do in the future (I'm convinced I can study really hard and get straight A's) I will not be able to get into? My ECs are pretty good I think, and all my classes are advanced or AP. Thank you in advance!

You might as well just drop out now, you’re beyond redemption.

I take back what I said earlier. No thanks to you.

Don’t worry about it. Your not a special case by any means – many people share your worries. Just get your grades up your junior year. Improvement is the goal.

I hear community college is quite affordable

This is a lovely community here.

Hey, you’re still fine. I started out my high school career with a C+ in a class and several B’s during my freshman year. I was able to raise my GPA to a 3.9 by the time I graduated. Don’t think that one bad year ruined it for you… instead, think of it as a learning experience. Just do your best and don’t look back.

Also, grades are only one part of the college application. There are a lot of other factors involved (EC’s, leadership, etc). Don’t forget this.
