I'm going to be a freshman at Berkeley, and so far my schedule is Statistics 21, Economics, UGBA, and a Southeast Asian History class. On a scale of 1-10, how tough are these classes? (1=i'll live, 10=dead in 1 week). Also, do you guys have any tips on how to handle these classes?

7.5, at least.
The courses themselves are not difficult, but the competition is. There certainly will be a moment during the semester that you will exclaim “But it’s not fair!!”

From Calso, I heard that freshmen should avoid taking Econ… especially for the first semester

Doable. Depends on how bright you are. I passed stats 21 with almost no studying. UGBA 10 is a lot of memorization, but the test is lecture-driven [I will be taking that]. Econ [1 with Delong?] is also not too hard. Brad is pretty dry though. And he teaches American Econ history, so I don’t know how hard he will be. But Econ 1 in general isn’t too bad.

If you are planning on Haas, maybe not all at once. If you screwed up, your GPA will prob. land you in environmental economics. But def. doable relative to what I have in store. :]

i didn’t get to go to calso, i’m from out of state and it would have cost me at least $1000 for the trip, let alone food and other expenses =(

well so far we’re already supposed to have read 4 books in preparation for econ 1…hopefully ib has prepared me enough for it

Yeah, L&S recommends you not take Econ OR UGBA first semester freshman year…

To me, that schedule seems tough.
