How bad is my SAT score?

I got a 1210 (590 math, 620 reading) on the June SAT and I’m aware that’s pretty bad compared to all the users on here but keep in mind I’m generally an average student (90 cumulative avg, mostly high Bs/low As), so like, is it really that bad? I’m not considering any ivies or ridiculously competitive schools, and compared friends I’ve talked to, my score seems pretty good. Like it’s no 1500, but I wasn’t expecting that.

So just give me any input? I’ll probably end up retaking in October anyway, but I just want some feedback.

I think it’s good if you’re not looking for top tier schools. If you’re happy with the score, be happy with the score- don’t let everyone pressure you into thinking that it isn’t good.

Enough for public institutions and some private ones, relax, there are more factor during applications besides standardized tests, although you may get more merit aid having a higher score.

That’s a 74% percentile score, which is good! Take a look at the mid-range SAT scores for the schools you’re interested in. I hope you find that your scores are well within (or even higher than) the range of students typically accepted.

You are fine for many many excellent colleges and universities. You need to seek out affordable schools you would be happy to attend that match your academic stats.

It all depends on where you want to apply. If there’s a particular school that you love, and their accepted students’ range is somewhat higher than what you have, then retaking it is worth it.

If you do decide to retake, make sure you do plenty of practice tests – I believe I’ve read that simply practicing taking the test is the best way to improve your score.
