How bad is Princeton Review?

Hey guys, how bad is Princeton Review? because everyone here seems to trash them.

Why is it bad? Would it help me or hurt me work on their practice problems?

Thanks

What are you talking about? I love the Princeton Review. I use them for EVERYTHING, SAT I, all SAT IIs, and APs. So far, good results. 2260 SAT I, 800 math IIc. Will take more in may and june. o_o

Bad to the bone.

And StrangeCamus, consider this: had you not used a **** company’s books to review, you might’ve gotten that elusvie 2300 ;)

What why? I love the style. It assumes you don’t know much about the subject (for subject tests) and teaches you all basics, then details, then the big pictures and stuff. All my friends who went to Princeton Review got good scores. 2210,2340,2310, and 2380. o_o

In some books by other companies, they might start talking about stuff and they might use a term and you’re like “what? wait what the hell is that?”. Princeton Review simplifies everything and makes it all easy to absorb.

Still, can you give detailed reasons why Princeton Review is bad? And what companies would you recommend and why? Because I bought at least 7 Princeton Review books for SAT IIs and APs to study with. I can still return/exchange them. o_o ;

I highly prefer Barron’s over Princeton Review, but maybe that’s just me. The 2009 PR SAT I 10 practice tests are full of mistakes.

I like the book, but I don’t suggest taking the classes. It’s a rip-off. Just buy the book and study it yourself. I took Princeton Review before I took my first SATs and I scored really low. Then I self-taught myself the second and third time… and score a lot higher.
I love how PR act like they are conversing with you through their books. It makes studying ++++fun. LOL.

Goodluck!

Yeah do not take any prep course they are all a waste of money as none of them are as useful as if you were to just study on your on with Bluebook. still though get the PR books and the BB and you’re good.

And btw… how bad is Princeton Review? Better than kaplan.

Princeton Review is a good starting place for most standardized tests, though the instructor-led classes probably suck. I like PR books, though they do have their fair share of terrible review books with numerous mistakes.

PR tests as well as their classes are, for lack of a better word, ■■■■■■■■.

After nearly 5 months of consistent 750+ math scores in the BB and a 77 on my junior PSAT, the PR test gave me a 690 math score. As a result of this, I did not return to the other sessions of the class as I found my own studying was 10 times as useful.

I found my instructors to be unbearably formulaic -though they were extremely knowledgeable about the PR book, they new very little about the actual test itself. In addition, I found them unable to differentiate between different student’s needs and styles of learning.

I later found out from my cousin, who worked as an instructor and tutor for the PR when he did his undergrad at Rice Univ. that the PR actually gives out gradually easier tests as the course progresses to create a false illusion of improvement.

princeton is probably second to bb
kaplan is probably the worst

Ah… one of the best IMO. There 12 tests really helped me. Practice with those and then blue book test, to boost your confidence and get a maximum score.

As for classes, my friend took a PR class, said it was outstanding. He got a 2140, 1st time, no study.

PR, full of mistakes. It actually makes you dumber, Grubers for math is what i recommend, if you want a more well-known company, go with barrons. Never needed anything for CR or Writing, but PR sucks and Grubers has great math help.

Princeton is perfect. It taught me a lot of great strategies that always help.Problems that look so hard can be solved if we plug-in some numbers. This is what PR actually teaches you when comes to math - ‘‘always plug-in’’ ; ‘‘nobody cares how good you are at algebra’’.

Jan I scored 610 on M and 620 on WR without learning a lot.NOw,after I did their practice tests and read their explanaitons ,I constantly score 760+ on WR and 720 + on Math.
Still havent done any CR sections because I am reviewing vocab now ,but I am hoping after I review the whole Barron`s 3500 mini dictionary and do the CR sections of PR ,to constantly score 700+on CR and 2200 in June.

Seriously PR is great source of practice tests.I even think they are better than CB`s tests.

cHrOn1c:

Actually I dont think thats true because when I took the course, the practice tests they gave me where in different order than the order that they gave my older sister(who took the course a few years earlier)
the practice tests were the same though ( i compared them)

so they were in different order but we both had increasing scores from the first test.
i think this disproves that “conspiracy theory” lol … but i heard that a lot.

interesting…
