How bad is the area around Johns Hopkins, and chance if you want.....

Yes your grades are good. The fact that you have these grades but are only ranked in the top 20 means that your school is very competitive, which can only help you more. You’ll be fine since your counselor made sure to mention that.

I have the same thing at my school. Very competitive. We would all look so bad if they ranked us, that they actually do not show our class rank on anything.

Sorry, that was to ftx2009

^^^^ Thanks for the input into JHU’s saftey, and thanks for the input on my grades…

Believe me, there are sketchy people everywhere… including Northfield, MN. But you’re absolutely right in that it’s always important to pay attention to your environment when you’re walking around, etc.

^^^ Your right, I would visit Johns Hopkins, if I knew I might get in…

The thing is, I live in a very small suburb of Houston, where its like living in a bubble…the average salary where I live is 175,000 or more…as a result, out in public, I never learned to be mindful of my surroundings, because nothing, NOTHING bad ever happens here…

Charles Village where all the dorms are located is a pretty safe and vibrant neighborhood.

If you’ve been to the actually bad parts of Baltimore, the area surrounding Homewood is paradise. Just don’t travel at night by yourself and don’t do anything stupid (these can be said of any city).

Let’s just say, it’s no Monte Carlo or Paris, that’s for sure. Sometimes, it may get a little boring around here, but a resourceful person can also find things to do.

[“How To” Hopkins: “How to”… Experience Baltimore](<a href=“http://hopkins.typepad.com/howto/2007/11/how-to-experien.html]"How”>http://hopkins.typepad.com/howto/2007/11/how-to-experien.html)

I spent three weeks at the Homewood campus a few summers ago. I was one of the older ones (15) and the group ranged from about 12-16, so we weren’t really allowed off campus on our own. But when we did go (a few times with our college student RA and a few times just wandering off) it wasn’t a really bad area. I guess it depends on where you come from and where you’ve been. Being born in Queens and spending a lot of time in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan (but also living in a somewhat sheltered suburb), it didn’t seem at all bad to me.
Of course you can’t be stupid about going out, but that’s true of almost everywhere.

well my cousin works at this hospital near jhu, and she said the area is kind of…a place with lotta criminal activity xD but i still applied LOL…im sure the campus is safe…

Thanks for all the input…

Oh well, I don’t think I am going to get in, probably get rejected in a couple of weeks…

Hope this thread helped other future applicants applying to JHU, good luck, hope you guys get in.

i’ll probably get rejected too…lets hope we get in <3

Yes, i get to get rejected today wooh!!! Yahh!!! Way to ruin my friday…
