Hi!
I'm a student from India, and will be entering a class that corresponds to Senior Year. I just got my SAT I results:
Math - 700
Writing - 770
Reading - 800

Do I stand a shot at the Ivies?

Hi!
I'm a student from India, and will be entering a class that corresponds to Senior Year. I just got my SAT I results:
Math - 700
Writing - 770
Reading - 800

Do I stand a shot at the Ivies?

If your score doesn’t then pretty much no one does…

But is my score ok?

Yeah! It’s pretty good, good enough for the Ivies!
But good scores won’t get you in!
Colleges like well rounded students =)

I know. My activities are pretty ok.

But I have to say, great job on your CR!
An 800 CR is way more rare than an 800 M.

Math scores are easy to improve with studying if you want to take it a 2nd chance~

The fact that you got an 800 in CR and you’re from India is very impressive.

@ Shaggy: Yeah! Everyone was like: “800 CR, 700 Math?!”

I’ll think about retaking it. Anyone else has feedback?

800 on CR and from India is EXTREMELY impressive. If you think you can get a 800 on that math you could retake, but you are pretty good right now. You could also take one of the Math subject tests.

Out of curiosity, why is it impressive that he/she got 800 on CR being from India?

Hi morpheus!
Most Indians get 800 on Math and mess up CR. Me, I did the opposite! (I’m talking about the average Indian who takes the test; that’s what all my friends did.)

OtherWindow, I’m not sure - I might make 5 mistakes instead of 4 and wind up with a 680! Then again, I might do well and get a 740, maybe even 800…

Any more feedback? Do you guys think trying to get a good score (720+, say) on a Math subject test would be wiser than retaking the test?

Yes. The ivies do not have a minimum, but to be competitive, you should have strong scores. Your scores are well within the competitive range. Work on your essays. Write a self-reflective essay that will show that you are interesting, know how to write and would make a good roomate.

800 in CR is impressive if you are from the U.S.A. too.

800 is impressive anywhere! Any other feedback??

Oh, just in case it helps, I got a 780 (83rd percentile) on French with Listening in November.

Out of curiosity, which ivy were you planning to apply for? Although your scores are great, a 700 in Math could be a disadvantage seeing as how your peers seem to score 800.

Kudos to your CR score. It’s very impressive. Also, may i ask what you got on your essay?

I visited and fell in love with Yale! I was also looking at MIT (not an Ivy, I know), but dropped it because of my math score.
I got a 10 on my essay.
If I do really well on Math Level 2, will that make up for the 700 on SAT I? I’m pretty good at Math; I think I must have marked my answer wrong or made a really silly mistake.

Let’s put it this way

NO college will reject that score

(well maybe your Math mark is a little low) but even MIT wouldn’t reject your application right away

@JBCHUN: I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but not getting rejected right away does not eliminate the fact that she might be rejected further down the road, seeing as how she’ll probably be compared to her peers.

But, a set of strong ECs coupled with this score can certainly make the ivies feasible.

Thanks, JBCHUN!

I do have ok ECs: editor in chief of monthly online magazine at school, student editor of school annual magazine, first runner up in national biology competition, French classes in which I was the only student from school - everyone else was in college or had graduated.

Now what do you think? Do I have any realistic chances?
