How bad is to have more than five Ws?

Hello

I am a community college student in California and planning to transfer to UCLA or UCSD(hopefully).

My major is Aerospace, and I have completed 70% of requirement courses with 3.6 GPA. I have Ws(from Calculus 1, Physics, Anthropology, Chemistry 1A) and a D(from Calculus 1, finally got A from Calculus 1 last semester).

I am doing really really bad in Chemistry 1A(getting D,,again!!!) and thinking about droping it because I think getting a W is better than getting a F.(one more W from History 1b in worst case scenario). However, I am little worried because this W will be my FIFTH(sixth possibly) W. I know four Ws already look bad...so that's why I am worried.

I have talked to the person from UCLA and all he told me was that my transcript will look ugly.

I am currently in Honors Transfers Program,,,,and I have heard that this program almost guarantees transfer to UCLA with engineering major. One of my friend(engineering) in this program actually transfered to UCLA with 3.2 GPA last semester.

Will five Ws effect(negatively...) admission a lot?

Thank you.

"I have talked to the person from UCLA and all he told me was that my transcript will look ugly."

Sorry but it sounds like it will. But if they accepted your friend with a 3.2 and you have a 3.6 I wouldnt say its impossible.

Do W's for non-UC courses matter ? I'm thinking of dropping a course that is not UC-transferable.

I'm a engineering major too (mechanical) but the w's and D's in a pre req classes could hurt you, but applied anyways cuz UCLA really looks at your essay and statement and EC.With UCSD just do the TAG program.
