grade-wise i mean. Like grade deflation. One admissions officer at MCV told a friend that they add about .5 to anyone applying from William and Mary's GPA. I know that W&M embraces a more traditional, harder type of grading but how true is this? How hard is it to get good grades? Most people who I know that go there see their grades go down. How hard is this school compared to others, like University of Virginia, etc?

LOL! Change your title, William and Mary is overall an excellent school.

It's also tough, but I don't think (I'm not a college student, so don't take my word too seriously) they "deflate" their grades...

The average freshman at William and Mary has an average GPA of 2.6- 2.9 after their first year, so it's not inflated or deflated at all.

It looks like average work at W&M gets a C+/B-

i can't remember how to change the title. I guess I never thought twice about what it sounded like. haha. thanks for your help!

C's are your friend. =P

and yes, the average freshman GPA is around 2.9 (or slightly lower). Lots of the lecture classes are curved to C+ or B- (2.3 or 2.7). Compared to other colleges, this is deflated.

Among graduate schools, W&M's strict grading is well documented.

As for W&M / UVA... all you can say is stereotypes are true to some extent. You hear about UVA parties a lot more than W&M parties. You hear about the academic load at W&M more than the academic load at UVA.
