So I had a great freshmen year, I had straight A’s and I had a 4.0+ Gpa. However sophomore year, my gpa has dropped to 3.57. My third quarter grades are
Geometry: D-
English honors: B
Chemistry gt: A-
Art: A
Band: A+
Ap gov: A+
Spanish: possibly a A- (hasn’t put grades in)
I do not know how I’m going to recover from this especially because I want to be a video game designer and my lowest grade is in geometry. I have a bad teacher but obviously I can’t blame everything on her. I’m not sure what to do because my chances may be ruined.
The good news is that there are lots of colleges and there will be one for you. If you are interested in a STEM major you will need to get your math grade up as it is important to have a strong foundation in math moving forward. Also, a D- might not be an acceptable grade for a college to “count” the class as one of your 3/4 years of math which could mean retaking geometry.
You will still be able to get into a school with a video game design program. Champlain College and Clark University would be happy to have you and have good programs. If you get your grades back up and maintain them, schools like RIT, RPI, and WPI could be options as well. I would venture a guess that USC and CMU are out (that D is in math after all, which is pretty important for GD) but there are still plenty of good schools. Besides math, make sure you do well in physics and CS classes.
