I took regular english my first three years of high school and have decided to take AP lit as a senior. I have done well in regular english, and am taking all other honors/ap courses. how bad does it look to take regular english for 3 years??

btw, i would be applying to top schools like dartmouth, vandy, duke, how much would this hurt in admissions

If you’ve taken a lot of AP courses, like the majority of the ones your high school has offered then you should be okay. It’s not going to hurt you but it certainly would have helped you had you taken the AP/Honors English class before AP Lit (if any). There’s plenty of other things you have to be assessed so don’t worry about this one specific instance…good luck!

You’ll be fine - you don’t need to take all APs, and since you’re taking quite a few, it’s still a rigorous schedule.

Well as to how much it will hurt you, no one knows, but it will hurt you in the sense that your transcript may not be seen as rigorous as another applicant’s who opted to take the harder English classes throughout high school. Your transcript is the most important factor in admissions, but if you’ve gotten good grades in your regular classes and you have a tough schedule for the rest of it, you’ll have a shot at those tough schools, which are reaches for even the most qualified applicant.

I wish you luck on the admissions process! :)
