How bad will it hurt that I'll only have 2 foreign language credits?

Not applying to ivies, but still applying to top tier schools of equal caliber. I know many schools recommend 2, but how badly will ONLY having 2 be in the admissions process?

This year I can take another foreign language it will just have to be a different language, and at the I level. Does that count or can it only be at the III level?

If the college requires rather than just recommends three or more years of a single language, it can be an issue that results in denial of admission. If it just recommends that level (like most high ranks do), it can be a weakness in your transcript that could be considered against you but you can still be admitted. I am assuming you mean you have completed only the second high school level of a language, meaning something like Spanish 2 rather than Spanish 3 or 4. If in fact you have completed the third or fourth level, then you have met any recommendation or requirement of three years (or four) because college language requirements or recommendations refer to level completed of a single languagenot actual number of years spent in high school taking a language.
