Long story short, I dropped my chinese class during the last week of lecture right before the final. There is a notation on my transcript indicating I dropped it last week. I was on P/NP and was likely not going to reach the 75% necessary to pass the class. How bad will this look for grad school? I am planning on retaking it to fulfill my language requirement. This class was not a part of my major.

One class? Who cares. Don’t worry about it.

Graduate admissions committees are not going to nitpick through your transcript looking for one dropped class or a single C. If there’s a serious pattern of academic trouble, that could be an issue. But one W? Don’t sweat it.

bump. anyone else have an opinion? would greatly appreciate it

I was told by my academic advisor that one “W” on a transcript is acceptable, but when you start having multiple it is not okay.

A “W” doesn’t always show poor academic ability. You could have dropped for multiple reasons. But, I think you said that your school blatantly says that you would not have received a 75% to pass?? That’s crazy.

My undergrad didn’t go that in depth. It just listed “W” on transcript, and the admissions employees can think what they want of it. Also, in essay #4, I believe, you can explain why you received a W. I mean, the Chinese language isn’t the easiest to learn I’m sure lol Relax. If it’s just your first withdrawal, you will be fine.
