How bad will this look?

I got the following grades for freshman year:
1A+, 2As, 4Bs, 3Cs, 1D

For the rest of high school I have all As and A+s (more A+s), with an upward trend in terms of the number of A+s (went from getting about half A+s to all A+s apart from one). My school does not calculate GPA or rank so that is all that they will see for freshman year.

It shows growth!

It’s not great, in that it affects overall GPA and rank. But they won’t weigh your freshman grades as heavily as your later grades, so it’s good. Like oversimplistic said, it shows growth.

Quite honestly, it’s not just the grades colleges look at, it’s the type of courses taken and if a student is handling them well. A s in photography, art, music appreciation or health and Cs in math, science, history or English would sink a student anywhere.
