I joined last year, and now I regret it. To me, it's really just a waste of time. I'm seriously considering just not turning in my hours, getting put on probation, and eventually getting kicked out.

My question is: Would me quitting NHS seriously affect my chances of getting into a decent college?

It wouldn’t matter. NHS is just another service club (if that) and there’s nothing particularly impressive about it. And it’s not going to be a “red flag” or whatever if it’s not on your application.

Honestly, NHS didn’t really matter all that much for me (I was elected VP senior year). Most of my volunteer and other activities were outside of NHS.

I guess if your chapter is quite active in volunteering, it would be a good use of time. Otherwise don’t bother. A few years ago, my NHS chapter was basically an induction ceremony, and meetings on events that never occurred.

I’m in the exact same situation as you. To me, it seems a bit useless - all we do is pick up trash around campus once a month and occasionally do a project that is identical to another that I’ve done in Anchor Club.

Whether it will hurt you depends on what schools you’re applying to, but I can safely say that it’s not going to break your application, not by a long shot.
