How bad?

I really love penn (junior, applying next year probably) and im pretty outgoing - so this whole ‘social ivy’ thing sounds good. But recently, ive heard ppl saying that social = alcohol and the weekends are one long drinking-binge. Most of the kids from my school who went there DO lead that kind of lifestyle. are there any penn students on this board who have opinions about this? i dont drink at all.

there is another thread about this as well so you should check that out. My input, drinking is big at Penn. That being said, I know quite a few people who don't drink and they still go to parties and have fun. Others go to the movies, go bowling, just hang out, go to center city, see shows on campus since there is one practically every weekend, go to hookah bars, clubs, and do lots of other things. So a large number of the people you meet will drink, but just because you don't doesn't mean that you won't have fun.

i don't drink. i'm really happy at penn. i'm hoping that pretty much sums it up.

i don't drink either. What i do is i still go to the parties and whatnot but I just carry the cup the entire time to give illusion of drinking, and so that people/friends won't bother you about drinking... In truth, there is never any pressure for you to drink if you don't want to. This way you never have to sacrifice ample opportunities to meet people (even in alcoholic scenes).

I'm also a Penn student and don't drink...

i don't drink either. historically, penn's student population is 80% drinkers / 20% nondrinkers, so that means there will be plenty of nondrinkers for you to hang out with.

you'll come around haha

YAY! You guys are all my type of peeps! :D Check out the thread I started about drinking! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=180264&highlight=pressure+drink.
