How badly can one class affect college admissions?

Hey guys,

I am a fairly good student (actually a really good one), but I seem to have screwed up in 10th Honors Lit. I have an average of 88 first semester and a 83 second semester.

Never mind the reasons behind it, but how will it affect my college admissions. Is it better explain a reason for it, or simply hope they don’t consider it?

BTW, it might not seem that bad,but the grade is dropping be GPA by a .2 points. I am expecting (and expected by others) to go to really high ranked college such as Boston 7y Med, Duke, JHU, Brown, etc. If I only had an average chance before, now I feel like I have no chance.

I am really stressing about this, and I need your help to tell whether I am right to worry.

And all gpas are unweighted

One B will not ruin it for you. Make sure everything else in your application is solid, however.

As long as the rest of your profile is great, I don’t see a single B holding you back incredibly.

You’re fine. Don’t stress out about it.

As far as hope scholarships goes, how will it affect that?

What is your overall cumulative GPA and SAT/ACT?

Scholarships are only affected by cumulative GPA and SAT/ACT scores. They’re not going point by point.

1 B in 10th grade won’t do you much harm. I remember feeling pretty bad when I got a B+ in junior year but ended up getting into the high caliber schools you’re aiming for (even with a B riddled midyear report). So don’t make the mistake I did and feel bad about it because in the end, your whole story will overshadow one B.

1 B isn’t going to make you or break you with holistic admissions. Stop stressing and move on.
