I'll be blunt with bulletins disregarding sentence structure

-first year i messed up(immature), failed 2 classes and ended up with 2.6 gpa
-took a year off, was diagnosed with ADHD, transferred
-now going into 3rd year @ new uni holding a 4.0 cumulative in biochem/minor in physics & only prereq left is Organic 2

If I do well on MCAT, 34+, can I still get into a decent medical school with that blackmark early on? This is assuming I graduate with a 4.0(GPA reset upon transferring) or summa cum laude at the bare minimum.

First of all, your GPA and sGPA won’t “reset” for AMCAS. You have to list every college you’ve ever attended and every grade you’ve ever received (including any dual enrollment classes from high school). AMCAS also does not allow grade replacement. Ever.

Sit down now and calculate your cum GPA and sGPA using ALL your grades. Do not “guess” at what your future grades will be. Count only your current actual grades.

What is your real cum GPA and sGPA?

That said, if your cum GPA and sGPA are in the 3.5+ range and you have a strong MCAT, you do have a chance to get accepted into a US allopathic program. That’s assuming you have the rest of the necessary pre med package–strong LORs, medical shadowing/volunteering, community services, leadership ECs, research and that you can write a excellent PS which explains why you have such a lousy freshman year and why it will never happen again.

Your chances may be better or worse depending upon what state you live in and how competitive the public med school is. (I hope you don’t live in CA!)

BTW, all US allopathic schools are “decent”.
