How badly does a C hurt you?

How bad does a C+ in an unweighted (algebra II) look if it is the only C (or B for that matter) on your entire transcript?

With the C my GPA would be around a 4.3, without a 4.5. I hear Stanford looks for "well-lopsided" students... I'm great at science, english, history ... but algebra II is just killing me this year.

So, yes. There's the question. Can you get into a lower Ivy, UCB/UCLA or Stanford with a C?

To colleges, is a C equal to two B's?

how can u say a C = 2 Bs?
its not algebra..

No....I think a C looks bad, to be honest. It isn't the end of the world, but it isn't the same as getting 2 Bs.

And it's Algebra II. Not weighted. That makes it 1000 times worse.

well is this C in freshman year? If it is, you are safe

No your probably not even going to get into a community college with your terrible GPA now.

Where did you hear that Stanford likes lopsided students. Does that mean students who are amazing in math and science, but not so great in english or the other way around.

It shows that you didn't put much effort. Even if you tried your hardest, then it is saying that you are not the type of person for that school. Plus, people who get into stanford barely have B's. They have all a's, and a few a-'s or b+'s. Your life isn't over though. You can redeem yourself by doing well in something else like the SAT. Then, the C will be overlooked by top schools and you won't have to worry.
