I basically bombed the first trimester of my junior year. Up until the last week of the trimester I had all solid A's and one A-. I finished the tri with 1 A, 1 A-. and 3 B+ in each of my AP classes. My gpa is like a 3.85. I don't equate grades with my self worth or something, but I think I really might have ruined my chances at UPenn or Cornell. Is it worth even trying now or should I just go for state school? I'm a urm and I haven't gotten my SAT back but according to practice tests is should be between 1950 and 2200, hopefully the later. I think I'm falling short of the mark and I don't know how I feel about that.
Everyone is getting smarter while I'm regressing

It’s worth trying.

Don’t colleges only see the yearly grades? I attend a school on a trimester schedule, and the only marks that were on the transcript were yearly grades. If that is the case at your school, you can definitely pull your grades up in time.

Wait—your junior year? No one cares about a breakdown of grades by trimester. Try to pull them up before the year is over. A B+ or two in an AP course probably wouldn’t kill you, anyway. Especially if you do well on the AP tests. There are also SAT subject tests. I think those schools want a couple. Essays, recommendations, interviews, and extracurricular activities can all help. Those are tough schools for almost anyone. Unless you can’t stand rejection, give it a shot. Chances might depend on what you major in.

I’ve never heard this about trimesters. I REALLY hope that it’s true.I’m going to talk to my counselor after she’s done sorting things for the seniors.

I give it a 1. It doesn’t sound like that big of a deal to me, They are AP classes, meant to be very hard.

A 3.85 isn’t the end of the world. Those schools are still definitely worth trying.

A 3.85! Oh no! ;)

Relax and breathe, hon. Try to pull up your grades but don’t go nuts. As and Bs in APs are fabulous. You’re smart and you’re going to get into a good school and get an education.

I’d also give it a 1. Relax … stats are only part of the story for UPenn or Cornell. You are not your GPA, but your GPA is good enough to be in contention.
