@PurpleTitan (re #34): Most (not dollar value, but quantity) alumni donations (for scholarships and everything else) are unrestricted “annual fund” charitable gifts and do not add to endowed capital. Many endowments (and this was my overriding point in post #33) include specific, binding terms and conditions for their use.
