I’m testing out of English because we don’t have honors classes at my school and the only advanced classes besides APs are in science and I’m a humanities person so it sucks for me. And basically if I have to spend another year in a class with idiots who can’t write a five paragraph paper and read five pages of The Crucible for homework I’m going to implode. Sorry, done ranting. lol

^That’s ok, I feel the same way at times. I am more fond of humanities as well. My school has an AP English class but it’s a little intimidating because it’s a large step up from what I’m used to.

What are you most nervous about? I think I’m mainly nervous for AP English and APUSH, but everything else I’m content with. It’s just I was used to writing 4 essays total in my normal English class in a year, and now I am having to write 4 just in the Summer! Hopefully I will adjust though, and I know it will be helpful in the end:)

Why can’t you take the classes you want? I know my school has a few strictly for seniors, but everything else is open to everyone.

I want to take chem/bio at the same time, and that will be a more difficult course load, and I’m not sure how happy the counselor will be about that. So, I might have to meet with her to persuade her.

You should be able to do that, though if you can’t, maybe you could take it at your local community college? I would have done that, but I didn’t know we could until this year.

There’s a community college across the street (literally), but it doesn’t accept sophomores. You have to complete your sophomore year before you can do dual enrollment. Before it was just you had to complete freshman year, but I think they’re losing a lot of money because high school students get in for free.

No problem! Do you just take biology then? Most 10th graders at my school take chemistry, but it’s different from school to school.

Hey, for those hesitant to take AP English, it’s really not bad at all. I was really intimidated too (i’m more of a math guy but I like to read), but after the first week it’s just pure fun. Seriously, I looked forward to the class every day. Imo, the timed writing is hard, but if you like to read you won’t have any problems. Once you understand some of the terminology (idk probs u do already i didn’t), there really isn’t a wrong way to analyze literature so even an idiot can do well with a little confidence lol.

Akabane, I think you mentioned IB on another thread: Do you know if AP English is comparable to IB English?

Basically, at my school, you have to take biology, chemistry and physics to meet the UC A-G requirements. But it doesn’t matter when you take them.

Well, pretty much every one of my friends took IB english, and I think they look pretty similar. IB may be tougher, cuz english is sorta IB’s forte.

^That’s comforting, thank you! I definitely like to write, but you’re right, the timed writing scares me! I’m mainly taking it to because I love English and I think it will be helpful:)
