We are visiting next week, and my S is really excited and all, but someone who went to IU told me that there is nothing to do in Bloomington. I kinda find it hard to believe that in a large town of 65,000 people there would not be enough entertainment. Plus a huge campus of 25,000 students or more. Can any current students, or prospies who have visited give their impressions?

its not extremely lively but its definatly not boring

sure you're not going to have all the things that a city has, but for a college town bloomington is pretty good. in addition, the university itself provides all these things for you to do (basketball games, bowling, music, etc) and of course there's the frat and house parties.

Yeah, you either drink and party or go to the University-sponsored events such as sports. The town itself isn't going to offer much, although there is a Limestone Quarry which is fun.

Are there not movies theaters, restaurants, music clubs, shops, on campus concerts and sports?? Seems like enough to me.

to be honest... i am from new york city... i have gone to high school here for three years, and i really love the city life. there is nothing like it.

but indiana bloomington is my top choice. i was extremely impressed with how much there is to do in bloomington. there are numerous movie theaters, a mall with all the stores we have in a big city, a best buy, GREAT restaurants. the food in bloomington is wonderful, as is the town life.

i think it's a great town. www.visitbloomington.com is a great website to show you just how much there is to do. and when you get to your hotel, if there is a visit bloomington guide with a map, it's a great resource.

bloomington is not boring at all, in my opinion, and that is coming from someone who has lived and partied in a big city for a while.

just my two or three cents.

have fun!

We did visit last weekend. The campus is REALLY pretty, the Student Union is awesome, and their new exercise facilities verrrrry nice. Some of the buildings seemed tired looking on the inside. Every student we spoke with seemed very happy to be there.

Definatly agree with you. I got my acceptance ina few weeks ago and am probably going here over MSU mostly because I used to live in Bloomington and well I like it better than where I live currently. You can really find stuff to do the college stuff you would be better off asking around I never went there and when I moved (in 7th grade) listening for the good parties wasn't really on my radar. But I do know that if you like anything outdoorsy at all you are so set. You have like 6 state parks within an hour.

Bloomington is MUCH nicer than Lansing. East Lansing isn't bad, however. I miss the whole urban environment though, you won't find that in either city. Shorty, I too chose IU over MSU and am from Michigan.
