How 'bout that Healthcare?

MM - i think you should move to somolia.

I’m just dropping by to state that this bill is wonderful. It’s fantastic that one of the world’s Superpowers is FINALLY taking care of and giving coverage to those who truly need it.

Perhaps now my best friend’s family can finally get the care they deserve. Thank you, President Obama.

I think the thing most people forget is that it isn’t the President who has the say - it’s largely Congress. He can’t do **** without them, so why blame the President? (Whether it’s Bush or Obama or Clinton or whoever.)

Opinion duly noted. I was actually considering Nicaragua myself.

(JK, America is still the best place to live by far. It’s just that the lead just got a little narrower.)

I agree. All Obama did was arm-twist and string pull. And make emergency flights to campaign for his party members…

I’m all for taking care of those in need, provided:

a: We have the money to pay for it.

b: I can still take care of myself in the way I choose.

So everyone on here thinks bashing others’ opinions is going to accomplish anything? I’m almost totally against this bill but I am not going to sit here and criticize others for what they believe because they obviously have their reasons for their opinions.

^By arguing, we sharpen our wits and clarify our own beliefs, so that when it really matters, we will be better prepared. Plus it’s fun.

lol at this thread.

but seriously I honestly don’t know how I feel on this subject…part of me says it might just go down the drain with all of this government spending…and part of me says its good for those uninsured and the ones who need it.

^Well, if the majority favored it I could accept a public option. I could even live with socialised medicine. But I can’t support a bill that forces me to buy a product that I do not wish to spend money on.

Ethiopia’s nice. Great job opportunities.

Though anyplace in Africa will do. (And honestly, fact saddens me).

@mosbymarion
yeah I kinda feel iffy about how they force you to get health insurance or else you pay a fine. Is it sone some states are trying to take it to the supreme court or something cause they find that to be unconstitutional?

^true*
woops haha typo

I don’t understand why this is new.

For one, there is an income limit and under that you get major help.

Second, we already do this with auto insurance. You must have insurance or pay a fine. No one seems to be challenging the constitutionality of that.

Third, so pay the fine if you don’t want to buy insurance. It’s not that much. But, don’t expect anyone else to foot the bill when you break your leg or something and need to go to the ER.

^

Yeah. If you are too big of a scrooge to buy insurance, just take the fine and pay your own bill if you have to go to the ER.

Problem with the second point. If you don’t drive a car, the government doesn’t force you to buy car insurance or pay a fine.

Don’t know if it has been mentioned already, but I’ve heard the bill has a discrimination clause allowing certain religions to be exempt from being forced to buy health insurance.

And if you don’t need to ever use a doctor (ie you can’t because of your religion) then you don’t have to buy insurance.

But you will have to use the doctor at some point and therefore you will need health insurance. You may not ever have to drive a car.

Everone has the choice whether to drive. If we had the choice whether to use the healthcare system, then it wouldn’t be a problem. My family pays it’s own medical bills, but we can’t afford insurance. We don’t believe it is right to accept government aid unless we truly need it. Unfortunalty, we can’t truthfully say that is a religious belief.

It’s not government aid. It’s still private health insurance.

Are you sure? So the mandate forces people to buy health insurance from an insurance company or else pay a fine? I’m asking this b/c I read somewhere that the Republican plan was different because it forced people to buy private health insurance, which I took to mean that the one that passed doesn’t. I’m a bit confused over the details of this whole thing.

This bill should make it very difficult for people who want very minimal coverage to get it, right? Like catastrophe coverage only. It seems like the idea is to make the healthy buy bigger plans so that insurance companies can afford to cover people with serious health problems. Idk how I feel about that.

Also, the abortion piece. Ugh.
