I am interested in Berkeley, but have heard that it is much harder for an out of state student to be accepted. What is Berkeley looking for from an out of state student and how much more competitive do you have to look than an in state student?

hahahah....
have lots of money to fix the UC's huge budget deficit?

Nooob is correct... there has never been a better time to be an OOS applicant to the UC's. They have publicly stated they will be accepting more OOS applicants in a bid to increase revenue. Just get great grades taking a rigorous course load, have good test scores, and decent EC's and you have a good chance.

What is an OOS applicant? I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, not sure what it is UC weighted though. I'm taking 2 ap classes this year and 6 next year, and I am self studying another 2 aps this year for a total of 10 APs. Extracurriculars are pretty strong but not amazing like some applicant's. My SATs...well...I haven't taken them yet, but I think I should get 1500+ for the CR and M sections combined, and then something 700+ for writing. What is considered a good SAT score? 2100+? 2200+? I see most of the in state students that have a 2000+ get in with ease, but this probably does not go for out of state students.

OOS stands for out-of-state. Don't worry, you seem like a strong applicant.

Cicero -- having good grades + scores is most important to get into UCs. Nothing is more important, and it's not as hard to get in as it is to do well here + take advantage of the amazing resources.
