So, i was thinking...approximately 600 get accepted ED, right? But about 200 of those are recruited athletes. Another ~200 is legacies and some URMs. Then there's probably over 50 that are building donors or, like, famous actors, etc. So that leaves, what, 150 slots out of the whole country? I can't wait to get my deferral.

Well, thanks for depressing me, Clen...:(

This sucks for us little people.

lol... what are ur opinions about the idea that princeton may or may not be accepting less applicants ed b/c this is the last year its around? Do you think its speculation or true?

yeh i think it is true. if u think about it they r not gonna do next years gargantuan task without a bit of practice this year. i reckon they'll defer much more people this year and accept fewer..

also, id put the number of recruited higher than 200(38 varsity sports) and most sports have allocation of 6, football has around 20

Oh, and don't forget all the kids who go to special feeder schools and other elite prep schools (like the ones in the NY Mag article)

officially the most depressing thread ever!
unless 71 out of those 150 are on the CC official roster...

clendenator are u sure about those statistics? and its not like ALL legacies get in. anyone know actual %'s? and do ALL RECRUITED ATHLETES get in?

Well don't worry too much about it. Everyone has something special about them, whether it is perfect test scores, an award, an extracurricular, or some diverse trait (not just ethnicity but state of residence, choice of major/academic interests, etc.)

Also, how many people do you know of who got into Ivies? Probably a lot, right? How many of those were URM/legacy/athletes? Reality is actually comforting sometimes :D

hopeful and fred, why does that necessarily have to be true? just because it's ending ED after this year, why would they make it unfair and harder for this year's ED students to get in? what kind of "practice" would they really need?

OR since they are ending ED they could go all out this year and accept more people.

Just trying to be optimistic.

Not all recruits get in, just a lot of them. And not all legacies get in, but they get in before normal people in the early decision round, so i think 200 would be reasonable. I wouldn't say more than 200 athletes because some sports don't seem to have hardly any recruits, really, like wrestling (as far as i can tell from the "recruited athletes" thread. Also, there are a lot more sports who recruit 6 than 20. I stick with 200.

They will probably use ED normally this year so they can compare the ED class vs the non ED class. They don't need to "practice" not using ED. It would be kind of stupid for them to do ED half-a$$ed because it adds another variable to the admissions equation. It would be very hard to compare 3 different types of classes, and they would need a larger sample size than 1 class to make an accurate comparison.

great...i'll be expecting my deferral in the mail on december 15th...

anyone know what percentage of athletic recruits are admitted???????????

50 developmental candidates? yeah right.. maybe 10, and these guys don't have to apply ED

200 qualified legacies? I really don't think so...

Well, all I'm concerned about is that there's 150 openings and 71 CC'ers so we still have a chance to all get in! w00t. Lol.

oh, and looking at last years data, about 200 of 500 legacies were accepted. (u can find it on the common data set.)

hmmm 200 of 500, that means including RD, right?
So less then 200 would be accepted ED.

Wow legacies comprise 1/6 of the class.. stunned

EDIT: Ok I just did a little of my own research.

13.9 percent of class of 2010 were children of alumni
1230 people admitted for class of 2010

==

170 legacies.

Not all of which were accepted ED
