How can I afford Emory?? Help!

Emory is my number one choice and where I really want to go. If money was not an option, I would go there for sure.

However, I did not get a very good financial aid package. I only recieved $34,224 in grants and scholarships, leaving me $17,908 short of the $52,132 tuition. After $2,000 a year for work study, $3,500 a year for federal sub loan and $2,000 a year for federal unsub loan, I'm still $10,408 short of the cost of tuition. My parents are not financially well off and have bad credit and are thus unable to take out loans. So my question is: how can I make up this $10,408 difference? I was told that there is a cap on how much students can take out in loans. I have called the financial aid office and they wont lower my tuition any more. I have received a couple of scholarships, including one for $1,000 and one for $2,000 for four years.... but that isn't enough to pay for Emory.

Emory is a top university. I worked really hard in high school, am valedictorian of my class, and it is where I really want to go. My alternative is to go to Case Western, but I really want to go to Emory. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? Go to Case Western…you have already done everything that you can do (short of winning the lottery)…

Yeah, you did everything possible. Since you already called them, there isn’t really much else you can do but go to Case…Sorry about your financial troubles. I wish you the best

I may be wrong, but isn’t there a way to take out a loan in your name? You are 18, you’re credit is immaculate. There may programs that accomodate your situation.

Don’t leave any stone unturned, if you want Emory, then every option must be explored. However, keep in mind it might now work out.

^^Yes, unfortunately you are incorrect. An 18-year old with no job cannot borrow money easily. Private student loans are available to students, but they require a cosigner. And the consigner needs to pass a credit check.

OP: post on the Finaid thread. Several posters are actual college finaid reps and are extremely knowledgeable. Good luck.

Dude I got no money at all and I’m going full price so quit your whining I really don’t want to hear your sob story of havin to pay 17 k

^sorry but seriously take a loan people are way worse off than you

You can take out a loan if you have got a cosigner with a good credit rating. Relatives, friends, anyone?
