How can I earn without hurting my Financial Aid?

I am a freshman in college and I am working on campus. I have Federal Work study for 1500. So far I have earned around $500 on a non-federal work study job. Does that still count as my federal work study requirement? Also, at what amount of my earning will the school factor into my earnings and take away some of my aid because they expect me to contribute? What is the cut off mark?

Thanks

No the $500 does not count as your federal WS requirement - the job has to be a WS job to count.

For non WS earnings the protected student allowance for 2008-2009 is $3080 (may actually work out a little over that with allowances for taxes etc). Anything over that 50% goes to the EFC. But income that is from a WS job or taxable scholarship/grants will not affect your EFC.
