How can I express this?

I am a prospective for Class of '12, and Wesleyan is my positively my top choice college....but I cannot apply ED for financial reasons. How can I let admissions know that I want to attend Wesleyan more than any other school, without applying ED? Would it be ridiculous to send some sort of explainatory note? I've already discussed the issue with my parents, and they don't feel comfortable having me apply through a binding contract. PLEASE help!!

Are you in contact with the admissions officer responsible for your part of the country? Have you interviewed yet or are you planning to interview? You can always make your point then. My D is in a similar predicament, although she is not 100% certain that Wesleyan is "the one." But even if she was we are not in a position financially to risk it all on one school, particualrly as she will be competitive for significant scholarship/grant aid at several other schools on her list. Good luck.

When I was awarded commended achievement on the PSAT, I listed Wesleyan as one of my two top schools, and so they were notified then of my interest. I also visited in the summer, but have yet to request an interview.

want2bIvy, I would definitely recommend that you send Admissions a letter expressing your interest in Wesleyan, and I would also recommend that you have an interview as well. Make sure to look DEEP into the school and make sure to find out why you really want to come here. If you have an questions regarding campus life, feel free to contact me on here. Also, it's gonna be really hard to get in RD, mainly because there are so many fantastic applicants. Nevertheless, I feel that you probably have a shot at getting in here (just as any top applicant might, given your enthusiasm and posts), so just apply RD.

Thanks so much for your advice! I think that I will send Admissions some questions, maybe emphasizing in an email how interested I am in attending Wesleyan--and also request an interview asap! =)
