Hey everyone I'm currently a junior in high school. I go to a rigorous private school in Florida and have FSU as my top choice. I was wondering if it is possible for me to get into fsu summer or fall term, Class of 2019.

Gpa by year,

Freshmen: 3.09
Sophomore: 3.43
Junior: 3.76 first quarter, and currently have a 4.03 in the second quarter.

3 Honors and 1 AP

I took the act once so far and scored a 25 composite and a 10 on my essay. The reason my score is so low is because I am taking trig now and only scored a 21 on the math. I plan on taking the act again and have been going to tutoring as well. I have around 200 volunteer hours and have kept a job since freshman year. I have also played varsity tennis for three years. Does my upward grade trend increase my chances at all? What really hurts me the most is that I received a C+ in 8th grade pre-algebra, that pulls down my gpa. I was not aware that since it was a high school credit that it counted. Will fsu take into consideration that it was in 8th grade? Also if I keep my gpa up for the rest of my Junior year and raise my act score to around a 29+ do I have a chance? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

You definitely have a good chance. Take the ACT again like you said, and also take the SAT. Some people do better on one test than the other. Take more AP classes next year and continue your upward trend. I don’t think the pre-algebra C will be a problem. I got a C one semester in middle school algebra and it hasn’t at all adversely affected me.

You will have to bump up your test scores. I don’t know what your course rigor is like so it’s tough to say anything about that. Your GPA is okay.

I don’t think a C in 8th grade will impact anything. Realistically its impact on your GPA is minimal at best anyway, so FSU probably won’t care about it.

So long as you get your ACT score up to 29+ (that’s a pretty big jump… doable, but big) and keep up your grades, you have a decent shot at being accepted.

I believe FSU superscores so my goal is to really improve on my math especially. I will however do better because when i took my ACT I had just gone in to trig… where I think I did poorly. But I am kind of confused on how superscoring works. Do I need to take the writing portion again even though I am happy with my current ACT writing score? In other words, when superscoring will they pull that writing grade if I don’t take the writing again?

FSU Superscores all scores. I didn’t take the ACT Writing more than once and they still superscored all of my ACT scores into one. What superscoring is, is where FSU takes the best scores you have on each section of the test and basically gives you a new score from that. So if you were to say, raise your Math, Reading, and Science scores each a couple points the next time you take the ACT, but your English score dropped a point or two, FSU would use the best scores from each section to give you the highest score possible. Essentially, you could possibly score say a 26 officially from ACT, but FSU may superscore it and your score might be a 27 or 28. You never know.
