How can I get a 4.0 in college

how to get a 4.0? Go to an easy school ... take easy classes ... only take classes in which you are comfortable and know you will do well ... spend every waking moment working for a 4.0. OK, that was somewhat sarcastic but also someone truthful ... for my kids I hope they use college to push themselves, to explore, to learn, to learn to learn, and to enjoy themselves. If you do all those things it's pretty darn hard to get a 4.0. Should they try hard ... of course ... however my first goal is they push themsleves and try new things; which makes that 4.0 unlikely.

The grade I am most proud of as an undergrad is my B in Greek history ... the lone engineer among history majors ... and boy did I get smoked on the mid-term and my first paper (I had a F half way through the course) ... great prof, great class, learned a ton ... and "only" got a 3.0 in the class.

thank you, you guys are very helpful.
i've realized i dont have to get a 4.0, but thats still what i'm aiming for

That's a good way of going about it. It's a good goal to have, but don't make it your sole priority, and remember that it's far from the end of the world if you don't get it.

If one of the greatest challenges in your life is getting a 4.0, I'd love to be you.

Stupid question but how is GPA calculated? Do they use every grade from every piece of work or is it just exams? and if so which exams?

Didn't you go to high school?

GPA is determined by your overall course grade in a class.

ok guys, I was just wondering if I can get some study tips, or good essay tips, things like that. I realize a 4.0 is not my biggest worry in life, its just that i wanna do well.

^ I think some ppl in this thread already covered that, just google "study hacks" and you should get a result about Cal Newport's blog. Its a great resource for college students and I've read through most of it, now I'm waiting for his book to be delivered

It depends on the school you go to.

Read the syllabus, go to class, listen for what the teacher expects, take good notes, work hard, ask others their experiences, and study.

Study until you throw up, or even after. There goes your 4.0 :)

you go man! lamo love your responses

If this thread were a child, it would be in 2nd grade.
