How can I get a scholarship?

I am applying for scholarships and need help with the essays and my resume. Has anyone tried using boaz scholars consulting? I was wondering if I should try it but wanted to find out what others thought about it. Really tired of rejection letters and I can use all the advice I can get.

Thanks

The best scholarships come directly from the colleges. If you post your test scores, GPA, and how much your parents can afford the experienced posters here can help you find some good schools to add to your list.

Read the links in this thread. Check each college for current availability.

I have a 3.48 GPA and got a 1290/1600 on the SAT. My parents won’t be able to pay for any of my tuition and I really don’t want to take out loans.

I don’t have a lot of time to search for scholarships I’d be eligible for which is why I was thinking about using boaz scholars consulting to help take some of the load off and help me with my applications. Just wanted to get an outside opinion first.

If you want scholarships…you need to make time to look for and apply for them.

According to this they charge you $30 to give you a “personalized list” which I’m going to bet you could get for free by doing a Google search with your personal information.

As noted above…the best scholarships (except for the very big ones…are awarded by the colleges to admitted students. If these are merit awards given by the college, they are usually for four years if you meet the requirements to continue them.

Many outside scholarships are one time, smaller awards, and are not renewable for subsequent years.

Where are you applying to college? Do you have financial need? If your family is low income, does your state have any college funding for low income students? How much scholarship much do you need?

As @austinmshauri stated, the best scholarships come directly from the colleges. You should target schools where your stats we put you a the top of the applicant pool.

When are you starting college?

You can’t borrow much anyway…only 5500 as a frosh.

If you’re a new graduate, what school did you plan on attending? Did you get any aid? How much do you have to pay?

Outside scholarships are NOT going to help you

Thank you all for the help! I am looking at engineering programs which can be very competitive at top schools.
I am sort of planning for the worst in case I don’t stand a chance at getting the big merit scholarships. Many other students applying have 4.0 GPAs and higher test scores. I figured targeting a lot of small scholarships would eventually add up since a lot of the big ones go fast.

I have done some googling to find scholarships, but it takes more time than I have. I am working long hours to try to save money for college. I hope to start in the Fall but I am still waiting to hear back from some schools. Tuition and fees at Georgia Tech for non-residents is about $33,000 per year.

I looked at the website posted by thumper1 (www.boazscholarsconsulting.com) and although I would have to pay, it seems reasonable considering I don’t have the time to do it myself. I don’t think I would get enough in grants or federal aid to cover everything so I definitely need scholarships.

Is the boaz scholars consulting thing a good idea? It looks more legitimate than other services out there and definitely more affordable.

“How can I get a scholarship?”

Have high grades and test scores.

“How can I get an outside scholarship?”

Have high grades and test scores and a compelling personal story, immense community service hours, and preferably an interesting work history.

Are you applying as a freshman or a transfer student! Please explain this. If you were applying for admission AND financial aid,p for this fall as a freshman, your applications would have been due a LONG time ago…and you would have gained admission already. If you are an incoming freshman, you would have needed to make a matriculation decision before May 1.

How is this NOT the case for you…and especially for Georgia Tech which does not appear on the list of colleges that still have freshman openings.
