Hello, I am a college student from Taiwan. I want to get further study after I graduate from the college in Taiwan. I want to know the procedure of applying for a college in USA.
What kind of test should I do and what else I must do before getting the USA college entrance. Thanks for your reply, sincerely.

… you are a college student? so I guess you can apply for transfer students… Just search out your favorite schools, lots of them use commonapp. Generally all the school will tell you the procedure, like what kind of stuff they need… But I don’t believe you need to take further more tests unless you want to start it out again from Freshmen.

Do you mean for graduate studies? Or transfer as an undergraduate?

SAT/ACT scores are typically needed, as well as TOEFL since you’re an international student. Everything else is generally the same, I’m pretty sure. However each school is different as to their requirements so do some research for the schools you’re interested in.

what type of college do ya wanna get in?

You need to check out if it’s possible to transfer your credits. Should be possible. I knew a Chinese girl who transferred her credits from Beijing to Boston College.

since you mentioned that you want to “get further study after I graduate from the college in Taiwan”, I assume you want to get into a graduate school.

You would have to first figure out what school and program you want to apply to. Unless you want to get into law (take LSAT) or medical (take MCAT), then you probably have to take either GRE or GMAT. Which one depends on the program you want to apply to. Most business related programs require GMAT. Otherwise it’s usually GRE. However, there are a growing number of schools that accept both.

Since you are an international student, you will also need to take Toefl.

I would suggest to start of with figuring out what you want to study in graduate school. Then research on schools that have programs related to your field of study. All colleges have application instructions for international students on their website (usually Admissions section)

Hello, Lee.

The process of either transferring while an undergraduate or applying to graduate school is not all that difficult. You need to check the admissions websites of the institutions that interest you, and then check to see that you have the appropriate qualifications. You can also feel free to contact the admissions office with questions, if it seems that your situation is not fully addressed by the websites.

Beyond that, many Chinese students seek out professional advice in the admissions process. That process is SO different from what we find in Asia, that many find it useful to have a personal guide to navigate unfamiliar waters.

Good luck!
