I like to be around ambitious people. It’s fun and it pushes me.
I agree. I really enjoyed (for the first time when in college) - not being bored in one class or other and the feeling of excitement in learning new things every class. Although the minority of the week is actually spent in class in college, those 15 hours or so per week can be very exciting (presumably if at a college or program within the college which is a good fit for the student’s abilities). Professors were able to move through material at a good pace, other students’ questions (and answers) were challenging - you rarely were bored and had to be alert constantly. The conversations at meals also were interesting, and very diverse, and professors often ate meals with the students. It would not have been worth 70,000 in debt, and years of financial worry, to experience that - but that 4 years of constant challenge did have significant value to me (and my debt was much smaller and more manageable so was not an issue). Other students have different personalities, but I found it very exciting to be surrounded by smart people - a constant fun challenge.
